My Grandfather's Records

onKSUA(Fairbanks, AK)

DESCRIPTION
The vast majority of the music on “My Grandfather’s Records” is just that— jazz, orchestral foxtrots, torch songs, and old pop songs from my grandfather’s collection of 78 RPM records, cassettes, and 33 1/3 RPM records. While the majority of the music he collected were pressings from the 40′s and 50′s, some of the songs date as far back as 1912 and as late as 1979. Now and again I will bring in a portable turntable and play vinyl in the studio, and will have theme shows such as “Love and Heartache”, “Heroes of Jazz”, and so on. This show is dedicated to the memory of my Grandfather, Henry “Hank” Earl Johnson (1918-2011), whose love of music continued even long after he lost his ability to hear.
