Soundtap F.A.Q.
What is Soundtap?
Soundtap is the only crowd-sourced, show-specific way to enjoy independent radio.
All of the stations are non-commercial (college or community) radio stations and all of the shows are added by users.
What is Soundtap Madness 2013?
Soundtap Madness is an online listening tournament (April 1st - April 12th).
The 64 stations were selected and seeded in the following way:
U.S. college stations were divided into four geographic regions (NW, NE, SW, SE).
In each region, the stations were ranked according to the number of active broadcast
hours weekly, not counting syndicated or automated programming blocks. The seeds
were then matched in head to head pairings, in standard bracket fashion.
Some stations were excluded this year if they are on Spring Break at tournament time or
if we cannot get their internet stream to function properly on Soundtap.com
In each two day round, the station that accumulates more listening time through
Soundtap.com or the Soundtap Iphone or Android mobile app advances to the next round.
Users must be logged in to score listening time for the station.
The scores reset each round.
We have taken care to avoid using any trademarked terms in the Madness tournament.
This is the second annual Soundtap Madness.
Soundtap Madness 2012 logged over 2 million listening minutes.
Can we talk about Soundtap Madness on air and rally listeners? Yes. Talking about the tournament, describing the rules, indicating where to find the tournament and how to score points for the station is all within compliance of FCC regulations. However, DJs need to remember their fundamental training. Non- commerical radio DJs should NOT issue a call to action unless the entity is a legal 501c3. That status is difficult and expensive to obtain; Soundtap has not achieved it yet. So, DJs should NOT tell listeners to use Soundtap but can say that if listeners are interested in learning more and supporting the station, the URL is soundtap.com
