Mikey, a connoisseur of all things Prince-related in the early 80’s, cut his teeth a few years later in the heyday of classic alternative with Depeche Mode, New Order, The Smiths, The Cure and Echo and the Bunnymen. He is also largely responsible or to blame for turning Zumby on to the same a few years later. For years, he was a sideline music fan, until he saw opportunity with Auralgasms. He liked Zumby’s concept, but saw greater potential and came on board. The ensuing years saw Auralgasms reach global appeal and the implementation of Auralgasms Radio. Through Auralgasms, he met many musical friends and colleagues both internationally and in his hometown of Detroit. Mikey also enjoyed live DJ events with Zumby, including their monthly Atmosphere nights in Downtown Detroit. When Auralgasms ended in late 2009, Mikey noticed the kinship and co-promotion of other Detroit area live DJ events like Happy Endings, WOW Wednesdays and Haute to Death, This re-ignited the fire in him, and he came up with the idea for Strangeways Radio – to have many of his favorite DJs host shows to become one large community – all promoting each other.
